Probably, but that depends on why you hide yourself. You may have depression, social phobia, body dysmorphic disorder or something else even. Social phobia, also known as social anxiety disorder, is experienced when people feel afraid to be around others for fear of embarrassing themselves, looking foolish or embarrassing others around them. But there are many other reasons why someone may choose to isolate themselves. The most common reason is probably major depressive disorder. Major depressive disorder typically results in sadness, lack of motivation and not surprisingly isolation. Another possibility would be body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). People with BDD are afraid to go out because they think the look hideous, even though others may think they are beautiful. These are just a few of the most common disorders that keep people isolated. There is hope for all of them, but social phobia and depression in particular are quite treatable. Contact a therapist to get a good diagnosis and treatment. Do not give up -- there is always hope.
