yes i have an aunt who is constantly on and off meds
It is never a good idea to go on and off any kind of medication without the opinion of a physician. Obviously some drugs are much more powerful than others, so while it may not be as bad for a lesser drug, there is no harm in seeking the opinion of a psychiatrist. Other medical doctors can prescribe psychiatric medication, but I would
personally seek out a psychiatrist first as they have more experience with mental health medication than a general practitioner.
Not knowing what kind of drugs you are on I can't say anything else. SSRIs are thought to be mild drugs, but even still the withdrawal side effects when going off or side effects when going on can be quite bothersome. If you were on an SSRI 3 months might be enough time to have gotten it completely out of your system. You would have to go back to your doctor at some point to get new prescriptions, so you might as well just do it now, before you begin the drugs again.
One other thing to consider. Why did you stop taking the drugs in the first place? If it's because you were better, then it would make sense to use those drugs again. If it is because they weren't working or the side effects were to bothersome, then that would be all the more reason to see a psychiatrist as you might be better of with a different drug anyway.
Best of luck,
