Do B12 Shots Cause Anxiety?

vitamins.jpg

Although we hear a lot about B12 shots used for many reasons, they are most often used to treat what is referred to as pernicious anemia, a disorder that is expressed in weakness, fatigue, memory loss and moodiness.

This can be expressed as general anxiety.

There is a persistent belief that B12 shots can contribute to other health issues, including serving as a metabolism aide or as a way to get energy quickly. However, unless a person has pernicious anemia, vitamin B12 will not help with either energy levels or metabolism.

Furthermore, most people receive the recommended daily allowance of B12 through diet alone, making B12 shots unnecessary.

B12 and Anxiety

Being deficient in B12 can lead to some physiological and psychological problems, which include mood disturbances like nervousness and anxiety.

In other words, while B12 and anxiety are associated, B12 shots do not by themselves cause anxiety. Rather, in persons who are B12 deficient, the shots can indirectly relieve feelings of anxiety.
