Support changes lives

“OCD is a misunderstood and complicated mental disorder,” said Jeff Szymanski, PhD, executive director of the IOCDF. “As many mental health programs face budget cuts or financial strain, we bring our resources across the country each year to build new support systems, help families find effective treatment, and change lives.”

Education and awareness

The IOCD does important work as an advocate for people with OCD. Founded in 1986, it is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and professionals about all aspects of the disorder in order to raise awareness and improve care. OCD affects as many as three million adults and teens in the United States. While there is no cure, significant improvement for many has been found with cognitive behavioral therapy and medication.

”Improv for Anxiety”

For this year’s conference, IOCDF is joining with Chicago’s The Second city to host and “Improv for Anxiety”. This is a three hour workshop and discussion on the merits of improvisation as a tool for recovery for people with anxiety disorders like OCD.
