There is no complete cure for OCD, however there are many effective treatments.

The two medications proven to be effective in the treatment of OCD are tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). People taking one of these, can usually expect to experience some improvement in 6-8 weeks.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a category of psychological treatments that are used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Although there is no cure, CBT is the best way to permanently reduce OCD symptoms. Cognitive-behavioral therapy typically takes 17 sessions, where each session is 90 minutes.
