I have been having strange intrusive thoughts about being nicked/cut. These thoughts take me by surprise. It actually feels like the reaction that I would have if I was really cut & makes me jump. No hx of psych probs. How can I get this to stop?

Hi KKorky83, Without more

Hi KKorky83,
Without more information, I don't have a quick and easy answer as to how to get those thoughts to stop. If these thoughts are frequent and persistent, and causing you a lot of distress, you may have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). However, they may be related to something else as well.

How long have you been having them? How often do you have them? Do they occur at a certain time (such as a certain time of day, or when you are involved in a particular activity) or are they more random? Is there any family history of OCD or other mental health issues?

If it is OCD (and I am not saying it is), treatment usually involves a combination of psychotherapy and medication. If they continue to persist you may want to set up an appointment with a mental health professional for an evaluation to determine what is going on and what the best course of treatment is for you.
