Description: A survey of the fundamental concepts, principles and ideas of
chemistry and physics. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the
development of the principles and their application in understanding the world
around us. The course is 3 credits, equal to 12 hours of lecture per week plus
24 hours per week of outside preparation. Prerequisite or Corequisite: Math 103,
107, 205, 220, 235.
Homework provides exercise material in preparation
for quizzes and exams but is neither collected nor graded. Quizzes and exams
involve problems requiring math as represented in the homework. As such,
calculators are required. All students are expected to abide by the JMU Honor Code regarding quizzes and exams. The course grade is calculated from the scores on the quizzes, midterm, and final
exam as listed below. The lowest quiz
score will be dropped and will not figure into the final course grade. All
equations, formulas, and constants required during exams and quizzes will be provided unless
otherwise specified.
- All Quizzes: 35%
- Midterm: 35%
- Final: 30%
