I got married in June of 1999 and stopped taking the shot.I never got my period back until May of 2000. That was 5 years with no period. My husband and I want a baby so much but I was told it could take up to 1 1/2 years AFTER I got my period to conceive. I would never suggest this birth control method to anyone. It has caused me nothing but misery.

Hi, I can't say that I want another baby, I am not prepared for it at this time.I took the shot twice, the first one went okay, no periods! wow great for me. The 2nd one was a nightmare . I bled off and on for almost 2 months, it triggered depression and 40 lbs of weight gain. Not a healthy alternative! Theoretically it has been out of my system since Nov. 2000. But it is Jan 27, 2001 and no sign of anything. I didn't hear much negative stuff prior to the shot....but now my eyes are open. I have had 2 negative pregnancy tests(making sure) my blood levels are normal. But I refuse to go back on the pill till I get a period, which doesn't seem to be anytime soon. The company that makes this stuff, is marketing deprovera at a "friendlier" cost than the pill. it is cheaper for one shot- than three mos of birth control! Wow a great way to suck young girls in! I am 34, have 2 boys, 1 is 11 the other just turned 6. does anyone know the long term effects? what effect will it play on our bodies 10 years from now?
