Like all hormonal methods, the chemicals in Norplant will appear in the breast milk. One study found that infants breastfed while mom used Norplant were smaller than those in a control group (but another study found no difference). It is also thought that Norplant will reduce milk volume if initiated too soon after delivery. Doctors often recommend progestin-only contraceptives to breast feeding women as these are better options than combined OCs. However, I personally would recommend a condom, which is virtually guaranteed not to cause any problems of this sort whatsoever (very safe for baby).
