I am a 24y/o newlywed who's been on the shot for about two years now. When I first started the shot, it was great. Now, I have a list of side effects. I'm in the medical profession and in the USAF, so luckily, I recognized that the majority of the symptoms that I am having are attributable to the depo shot. Known and common side effects are no period, mild weight gain, depression, lack of sex drive, and there have been some women who actually bleed the entire duration of the shot. Talk to your doctor. Have your estrogen, thyroid, testosterone, and androgen levels checked before your first shot. That way if you do experience any of the side effects, you have a basline of what you were before you started and you'll know for sure if the side effects are because of the shot. Happy Researching, Kim

>>>>I'm 33 and have three children so I don't know what your going through although I am a little confused. I have a problem with staining inbetween periods for about a year and a half now and I'm desperate to stop it. Was not geting your period the only side effect? If it was I'll take that.
>>I have never taken any birth control during my marriage of 13 years and I wouldn't reccommend it either. In my experience any birth control pill will cause problems once you come off it. Well if you get a chance please let me know if you had any other side effects besides no period, I didn't see it mentioned and I would like to start taking it.

>> >>I am living the same nightmare! I was on the shot from May 1995 to June 1999 and I had no period that whole time. I got married in June of 1999 and stopped taking the shot.I never got my period back until May of 2000. That was 5 years with no period. My husband and I want a baby so much but I was told it could take up to 1 1/2 years AFTER I got my period to conceive. I would never suggest this birth control method to anyone. It has caused me nothing but misery.
