Is there anything to stop monthly period without the negative side effects of Depro Provera?

Hi, I've only heard of Depro a few months ago at school, or rather a friend told me of "this so called injection" that you can get to stop your monthly period. And when my mother asked the doctor about it she told her that it was the same injection you get to prevent babies. So I was sure I wanted to have this injection, but now, after reading the information you got about all the negative side effects, I'm not so sure.Is there any other tipe of injection or something to stop or prevent a monthly period? That won't have the effects that Depro provera might have, cause I really don't want to be at risk of cancer or not be able to have babies one day...
