>> I have tuns of questions cause I'm knew at this, and a teenager. I just got my shot last year and I've had wierd things happen to my body. I don't really know the side effects and I would really like some answers. I havn't been gaining any weight, but i eat a tun, and it's starting too show, and it's not good for my body cause I'm in sports all year. Also, a month after the shot, I got a bladder affection, and that led to a kidney infection and I was in the hospital for days. I'm maybe thinking that I'm allergic to it!! I'm really scared cause I'm afraid of getting pregnant. I don't know the chance and i would really like some answers and advice..

I am a RN and work at a family planning clinic. The Depo Provera shot can cause a delay in fertiliy in some women up to a year after the last shot. The main side effects are mentral irregularities and weight gain. But ever body is different and reacts to hormones differently. But most women tend to not have a period after the first or second injection. It is a very effective birth control method. If taken every 12 wks without missing a shot it is as effective as having your tubes tied. But in some people the return to fertility is not delayed at all and become pregnant without wanting to by simply not getting their shot on time.
