>>>>>>>>No one told me the long term effects of the depo shot not even my doctor. I only had 3 shots then my husband and I decided we would like to have a baby. Then I found out it could take 6 months to a year to even have my period again and there is nothing the doctor can do you just have to wait it out. Its very depressing. If you want to have kids or you dont I would advise anyone not to go on the deprovera shot!!!!

>>
>>>>>>I have been taking the depo shot for 5 1/2 years. I am ready to stop taking it b/c I keep having different things happen to me. I really enjoy not having a period, though. But I can't afford to keep taking it and risk something major in the end. I was told that it took a while to get pregnant after taking the shot, but how long can you take it before you become infertile for life? That is my main question!
>>>>>>Thanks.

>>>>I have been on depo for about 4 and 1/2 years. I recently got married and I got off of it. I loved not having my periods and never ever had any problems. I want to know if anyone has stopped taking it and how long it took you to become pregnant. I have been off for 3 months and i may be pregnant.

>>Just becareful. I was on it for a year then got off. I got pregnant before I got my period back. No one was sure how far along I was. I just know that when I was suppose to be at least nine weeks I started bleeding a little. I went in to check it out and found out that the baby had never developed past 6 weeks. I then promptly miscarried. I don't know if it was the depo or not but just a little side note.

I was on it for a year and got off, only because I was travelling and the country I was in - Italy - would not give the shot, so had to rely on the pill, which didn't work for me. I was pregnant within a month of coming of depo, but didn't realise until 4 months later when my stomach started to stick out! My period has never been on time even before I took depo. If I was lucky I might have 2/3 periods in a year prior to the depo shot. The doctors said could be an effect of my travelling and hormones as I had been travelling for 11 years. As for my baby she is now coming up to 3 years, bright as anything and no problems. Since then I haven't been on depo as I have had baby no. 2, and I won't go back to depo until I am completely finished breastfeeding this one. I haven't had any probs, but one of my friends has just told me she has just started on depo about 3 months ago and has been having constant periods every 2/3 weeks so not sure what that is.
