The process you described sounds like what I go through when I check the stove, lights, doors, etc. I'm just never really sure they are off or locked. I do that just one more time thing too. I've started to realized at least with my doors that they have glass windows and if somebody really wants to get in, they are going to get in even if I lock it. That has helped lessen that checking ritual, but the others are still there. I'm sure my mind will find another reason to start rechecking the lock numerous times. OCD is a monster.
