I am sorry to hear that your marriage is not going so well. The symptoms that you are describing, loss of motivation, negative thoughts about yourself, loss of appetite and sadness, all sound like pretty classic symptoms of major depressive disorder. It would be reasonable to expect that your relationships are going to suffer because of this condition. You mentioned that you were pregnant two years ago, so it is entirely possible that you are suffering from postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is caused by a combination of factors including hormonal changes, lifestyle changes, and some have even suggested the emergence of uncomfortable thoughts about your own childhood and the parenting you received. If you have a child it is of vital importance that you get treated for depression, as research shows that babies with depressed moms are less responsive, which can have long-term implications for development. See a professional for help right away.

Best of luck,
Dr Williams
