Prozac, does it build up in my system or does it mean a daily dose will only last 24 hours

Prozac (fluoxetine) does stay in your system for several days. And if you have had many doses it will stay in your system longer once discontinued. Because of the long half-life of fluoxetine, it may take up to 1 to 2 months for the active drug substance to disappear from the body completely. Additionally drugs like Prozac change the way your brain chemistry works and these changes may persist for a while even after the Prozac is gone from your body.

If you stop taking Prozac you will probably feel withdrawal symptoms however. Just the reduction in the amount of drug in your system should be noticeable after just a day or two. Never discontinue your medication cold turkey. You should taper it off under the supervision of a qualified psychiatrist.

Best of luck,
