Hi Mike, You sound quite

Hi Mike,

You sound quite distressed but you don't provide nearly enough information for me to venture as to what you "have" or even if you have any specific disorder.

It does sound like you have poor impulse control, problems with compulsive eating, and a significant problem managing your emotions.

The help that you need is therapy. A skilled therapist can help you learn ways to manage your emotions and impulses, and also help you understand and deal with the underlying issues that trigger these behaviors and reactions.

I hope that helps and I hope you can set up an evaluation with someone (e.g. a psychologist or clinical social worker) soon.

Hi Mike, Unfortunately, I

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, I don't know any therapists in your area. What I recommend is using the yellow pages (a lot of therapists are still not advertising online) as well as Google - and look for a psychologist or other therapist (I don't think you need a psychiatrist) and make a few calls. If you have health insurance, you may need to find someone who is on your plan's provider list.

It's difficult to know (without a reliable referral) who is good and who isn't, but I would choose someone with several years experience and with whom you feel comfortable when you talk to them briefly on the phone.

I hope that helps!

Dr. Lane
