I can't comment on the UTI's but I would like to answer your 2nd question about other options. After the side effects I experienced on the pill, I do not want to ever use hormonal birth control again! (Including progesterone only such as norplant, depo, or progestasert). I also don't want to use barrier methods (condom, diaphragm) -- too messy and also not very effective. My choice has been the copper IUD. Permanent sterilization may also be an option if you're at that stage, but a vasectomy is much simpler and safer than a tubal ligation. Good luck in your decision,
