have any of you had these problems while on the pill?

The seven months that I was on Triphasil I would get recurring UTIs and also some
yeast infections. Initially, I was treated with antibiotics (Bactrim and
Augmentin for the UTI, diflucan and terazol for the yeast), but the infections
seemed to keep coming back. My ob/gyn recommended me to a Urologist and I had a
cystoscopy done. He said there were no signs of any problems, which I guess
rules out Interstitial Cystits (thank goodness) and told me take pyridium if I
felt any UTI symptoms. He said I probably had urethral syndrome.

I told my primary care doctor about this and he put me on a low dose tricyclic
antidepressant for pain killing purposes (and also because he thought I was
getting some what depressed.) A month or so ago my ob/gyn did a full battery of
tests (tested for gonnorhea and clamydia, took a vaginal culture, urinalysis,
and pap smear). The STD tests came back negative, as did everything else- except
the vaginal culture which showed group b streptococcus.

Since I've gone off the pill (the beginning of September), my problems have
gotten much better. I haven't had a full-fledged UTI and my mood has greatly
improved, but I still feel irritation down there sometimes.

Has anyone else experienced the same problems with their birth control pills, or
has anyone else gone through urethral syndrome? Also, if you opt not to use
birth control because of side effects, what option do you use and how safe do you
feel it is?

Thanks!
Lissy
