People with OCD do not

People with OCD do not typically act on their impulses, so while you may have OCD too, actually placing a bag over your child’s head is not OCD. This is extremely serious. Based on your behaviors and feelings that you may harm your child, you need to go to the emergency room immediately. You should also contact your primary physician and mental health provider as soon as possible.

Postpartum depression, also known as Postnatal depression, can be very serious, so it is very important that you are being treated. There would be nothing worse than harming your child, so I urge you to seek help without delay. Postpartum depression is fairly common and treatable (thought to effect 5 to 9% of women after childbirth), but it has varying degrees of severity. You may be suffering from the more severe Postpartum psychosis, which requires proper treatment.

Either way I urge you to act quickly to get help for these thoughts and impulses for you and your baby’s health.

Best of luck,
Dr. Williams
