I am sorry to hear about your various problems. Have you ever sought professional help for your depression or moodiness? If not, the first thing to do if you feel you have a problem would be to seek a diagnosis from a mental health professional to better understand what if any problems you have and how they have affected other parts of your life.

Depression can certainly sap your motivation and drive, so maybe that is why you have had difficulties with medical school? Being moody all the time or depressed is certainly not healthy for a relationship, but people who aren’t depressed or moody break up all the time too, so you should try and analyze all of the reasons for relationship failures. Your hair loss is unfortunate. Depression or stress can cause hair loss, but there are men your age who are already completely bald so perhaps that is just a genetic problem.

If you are feeling badly about yourself or your situation then your first step, as I mentioned above, to seek treatment/support/guidance from a mental health professional. As a health professional yourself, it might be hard to admit you need help, but you will be glad you did.

Best of luck,
Dr. Williams
