Is Lexapro a preferred medication for ocd, and would 50mg. be okay in a person with high amounts of anxiety and obsessive behaviors

Lexapro (Escitalopram) is

Lexapro (Escitalopram) is sometimes prescribed for OCD. It is a newer drug however with less research in regards to OCD, so you might talk to your psychiatrist about going with a more traditional OCD medication (such as the SSRI Luvox, which was designed specifically with OCD in mind). Certain people respond better to certain medications though, so there is no saying what may or may not work best for your OCD. Unfortunately one often needs to try various drugs to find one that works (or drugs augmented by other drugs). The best thing to do would be to consult with your psychiatrist or get a second opinion.

As to the dose itself, I believe 30 mg of Lexapro is considered an adequate dose for OCD treatment. So 50 mg sounds like it may be a bit high. This is definitely a question you need to be asking a psychiatrist however.

Best of luck,
