I'm 21 and in a committed relationship with my boyfriend for 4 years now. It's definitely a challenge to remain abstinent at times but it is true that all other parts of a relationship become enhanced and nurtured. Abstinence is my choice of birth control and it always has been. I can always be confident that a late period doesn't equal possible pregnancy and it's certainly less nerve wracking! =) Masturbation helps relieve the tension and although I believe it's psychologically healthy to do it, a small part of me still feels guilty and sinful about it. Argh.

I've been considering having sex more seriously and questioning the whole waiting for marriage concept. The act of sex isn't a sin and God doesn't want us to abuse our sexuality or have sex outside marriage. But in today's society where people are in loving, monogamous but unmarried relationships, is it such a terrible thing to "break the rules"?

Your thoughts?
